HOW DO I REGISTER AND WHAT ARE THE FEES?

PLAYERS NEW TO ST MARY’S SHARKS

Those interested in joining our great club for the first time should, in the first instance, contact the relevant Age Group Coordinator/s for the sex/age groups in which their children will commence playing (see ‘What are the age limits for each age group’ section). The Coordinators can give you the information you need regarding registration for new players.  Please do not register until your Age Group Coordinator advises that your child is a confirmed player.

To contact your relevant Age Group Coordinators please submit an enquiry here.

Registration for the for the Autumn Season (first half of the year) opens in October.  Registration for the Spring Season (second half of the year) opens in May.  The registration window is open for four weeks.  Current members are advised of all registration information via email and through our social media platforms, Facebook and TeamApp.

Once registration is open, a web link is provided to allow players to be registered and fee payment made online.

Fees: For fee information, please check our annually updated Registration Fees and Refund Policy.

TEAM SELECTION

For team selection information, please check our Team Selection Policy, via the ‘Policies’ tab.

HOW MANY SEASONS ARE THERE EACH YEAR?

The DVBA runs two junior domestic seasons of basketball per year:

Autumn Season (January – June)   Spring Season (July – December)

WHEN WILL TRAINING BE HELD?

Training is held one afternoon/evening per week between Monday and Thursday, for up to one hour.  Training days and times are set for the season dependent on the coaches’ availability.

St Mary’s teams train at a range of venues in the local area.

WHEN AND WHERE WILL GAMES BE PLAYED?

Boys’ Teams – all boys play on Saturdays

Girls’ Teams – U08, U10, U12 play on Saturdays – U14 and U19 play on Tuesday – U16 play on Thursday

Venue: Please see the DVBA’s website for current venues utilised by the Association. Weekday girls’ games are all played at Diamond Valley Stadium.

WHAT ARE THE AGE LIMITS FOR EACH AGE GROUP?

The DVBA criteria for eligibility within each age group are:

  • Spring Season (second half of the year) – A player must be under the age stated in the relative age group by the 31 December of the year of the competition.
  • Autumn Season (first half of the year) – A player must be under the age stated in the relative age group by the 30 June of the year of the competition.

The age qualifications are Under 08, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19 (girls) and 21 (boys). Players must not have turned that age on or before the cut-off date for each season, in the year the season commences: Spring Season – 31 December; Autumn Season – 30 June.

Example:  In the Autumn Season (Jan – June), your daughter will play basketball for the first time. She will turn 8 years old on 20 June. Her first season will be in U10. Because she turns 8 before the 30 June Autumn Season cut off, she cannot play U08 so must commence in U10.

Example 2: Your son is playing in U12 in the Autumn Season (Jan – June).  He will turn 12 on 18 August, during the following Spring Season (July – December), therefore he must go up to U14 for that Spring Season.

ARE PLAYERS GRADED? HOW ARE TEAMS CREATED?

For grading and team selection information, please check our Team Selection Policy.

HOW ARE COACHES RECRUITED?

Once registrations are received, ahead a of a new season, our Age Group Coordinators begin to recruit coaches for all of our teams. Many of our volunteer coaches are parents or relatives of players. Some of our coaches are current or past players themselves. We are always on the look-out for people interested in coaching our teams. If you are interested in coaching, we would love to hear from you.

Please note: All coaches (unless Under 18 years of age) must have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) to be eligible to coach for St Mary’s Basketball Club. Coaches will be asked to supply the club with a copy of their WWCC.

For all information related to coaching, please check our Coaching Policy, via the ‘Policies’ tab.

WHERE CAN I GET UNIFORMS & MERCHANDISE?

New players: contact our Uniform Coordinators to order a new uniform. Our Uniform Coordinators allocate player numbers and can assist with a loaner uniform until the new player’s singlet and shorts arrive.

Uniforms orders are placed and paid for online via our supplier, Impact Sports.

For all of the information regarding uniform ordering and delivery cut off dates, please visit the Uniforms page.

CAN I BE INVOLVED?

Yes, you can!  Our club is made up of a volunteer committee. Our coaches are volunteers. Many teams have volunteer team managers to create scoring rosters and foster communication between team members. You will also be very much involved by getting your children to training and games every week!
