WHAT ARE THE AGE LIMITS FOR EACH AGE GROUP?
- Autumn Season (first half of the year) – A player must be under the age stated in the relative age group by the 30 June of the year of the competition.
- Spring Season (second half of the year) – A player must be under the age stated in the relative age group by the 31 December of the year of the competition.
The age qualifications are:
GIRLS COMPETITION
U8s, U10s, U12s, U14s, U16s & U18s
BOYS COMPETITION
U8s, U10s, U12s, U14s, U16s, U18s, U19s & U22s
Players must not have turned that age on or before the cut-off date for each season, in the year the season commences: Spring Season – 31 December; Autumn Season – 30 June.
Example: In the Autumn Season (Jan – June), your daughter will play basketball for the first time. She will turn 8 years old on 20 June. Her first season will be in U10. Because she turns 8 before the 30 June Autumn Season cut off, she cannot play U08 so must commence in U10.
Example 2: Your son is playing in U12 in the Autumn Season (Jan – June). He will turn 12 on 18 August, during the following Spring Season (July – December), therefore he must go up to U14 for that Spring Season.
ARE PLAYERS GRADED? HOW ARE TEAMS CREATED?
For grading and team selection information, please check our Team Selection Policy.
HOW ARE COACHES RECRUITED?
Once registrations are received, ahead a of a new season, our Age Group Coordinators begin to recruit coaches for all of our teams. Many of our volunteer coaches are parents or relatives of players. Some of our coaches are current or past players themselves. We are always on the look-out for people interested in coaching our teams. If you are interested in coaching, we would love to hear from you.
Please note: All coaches (unless Under 18 years of age) must have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) to be eligible to coach for St Mary’s Basketball Club. Coaches will be asked to supply the club with a copy of their WWCC.
For all information related to coaching, please check our Coaching Policy, via the ‘Policies’ tab.
WHERE CAN I GET UNIFORMS & MERCHANDISE?
New players: contact our Uniform Coordinators to order a new uniform. Our Uniform Coordinators allocate player numbers and can assist with a loaner uniform until the new player’s singlet and shorts arrive.
For all information regarding uniform ordering and delivery cutoff dates, please visit the Uniforms page.
CAN I BE INVOLVED?
Yes, you can! Our club is made up of a volunteer committee. Our coaches are volunteers. Many teams have volunteer team managers to create scoring rosters and foster communication between team members. You will also be very much involved by getting your children to training and games every week!
