Change to reversible singlets
ST MARY’S BASKETBALL CLUB IS MOVING TO REVERSIBLE SINGLETS FOR BOYS – AUTUMN 2020. GIRLS TO FOLLOW
Please read all of the important information, below, to gain and understanding of the St Mary’s Basketball Club’s move to reversible singlets. Please ensure that you are aware of these details before ordering any items of uniform.
SIZING OF REVERSIBLE SINGLETS
Please note that the reversible singlet sizing remains the same as the current singlet sizing.
Please see the sizing chart from our Uniform Supplier, Impact Sports, when choosing your son’s size (for boys playing in U08-U16 from Autumn Season 2020).
Sizes: 4,6 8, 10, 12, 14 S, M, L, XL, 2XL – 6XL
All currently registered boys who register again for the Autumn 2020 Season, and will play in age groups U08 – U16, will transition to owning and wearing a reversible St Mary’s Basketball Club playing singlet, with the cost being incurred by the club.
The reversible singlet will be the boys’ current dark blue on one side; girls’ current light blue on one side.
This is a summary:
- Boys will move to reversible singlets first (currently registered U08 – U16 boys playing again in Autumn Season 2020).
- Girls U08 – U16 will move the reversibles at a later date to be determined (hopefully within the next 12 months).
- St Mary’s will incur the cost of a new reversible singlet for all U08 – U16 boys, Autumn Season 2020.
- Age Group Coordinators will request the singlet size, from parents/carers of currently registered U08 – U16 Boys. The singlet size chosen by parents/carers is final. There are no returns or exchanges from our uniform supplier.
- Immediately after the end of the Autumn Season 2020 registration period, St Mary’s will place a bulk reversible singlet order with Impact Sports, our uniform supplier. NB: Any current player who is permitted to register late, after close of registration for the Autumn 2020 Season, will not be included in the bulk order of reversible singlets. The player will be required to purchase a reversible singlet prior to being placed in a team.
- Reversible singlets will be the only option for purchase from our uniform supplier.
- New and returning U08 – U16 boy players (those not playing in the current Spring Season 2019) will be required to purchase their own reversible singlet, via the online uniform ordering platform.
The reason that we are transitioning our U08 – U16 boys (girls will follow) to reversible singlets, from the Autumn Season 2020, is due to the fact that we no longer have colour priority over Diamond Creek Basketball Club. Also, as our club grows, more and more intra club clashes (St Mary’s v St Mary’s) are occurring with several of our teams in the same grade in the same age group each season.
Historically, St Mary’s had colour priority over Diamond Creek, a club that also wears dark blue. Diamond Creek was registered as a club with the DVBA earlier than St Mary’s. The DVBA, however, introduced a colour registration process several decades ago and St Mary’s registered our boys’ colours first. This is why, as we understand it, Diamond Creek wear reversible singlets. Despite this, several years ago Diamond Creek challenged the fact that that they were the club registered with the Association earlier than St Mary’s but they did not have colour priority. The by-laws were subsequently changed to give Diamond Creek colour priority over St Mary’s.
Some members have reported that there has never been an issue and Diamond Creek always reverse their singlets when playing St Mary’s. In the last few seasons, however, some Diamond Creek coaches have, rightly so according to the by-laws, challenged our boys’ teams for not wearing clash tops. For this current season, Spring 2019, we have an agreement with the DVBA and Diamond Creek that our boys’ teams will endeavour to have a clash set of singlets when playing Diamond Creek. However, due to the demand for our clash top resources, across boys’ and girls’ teams, for the current season, Diamond Creek will reverse their singlets when playing St Mary’s and our team will not forfeit the game.
THE TRANSITION: BOYS AND GIRLS
While our U08 – U16 boys (Autumn 2020 Age Groups) will move to reversible singlets first, our girls’ teams will follow suit.
The boys will be transitioned and be wearing reversible singlets from the Autumn 2020 Season, due to the fact that they may now clash for both inter club matches (St Mary’s v Diamond Creek) and intra club clashes (St Mary’s V St Mary’s).
Our girls have colour priority over St Helena, the only club with a similar singlet colour to St Mary’s. This means that our girls’ teams currently only require clash singlets for intra club matches. Given the large and increasing numbers in our girls’ competition, however, the reversible singlets will be a significant asset for them also as there are frequent intra club clashes across a number of age groups.
THE COST OF THE TRANSITION AND TIMELINE
The cost of the reversible singlets, for currently registered players who re register for next season, will be incurred by the St Mary’s Basketball Club.
As our members will appreciate, the move to reversibles will be at a significant cost to our club but we believe it is a very worthwhile investment in our players. It means that we do not need to spend extra funds on more sets of clash singlets to cope with the increased demand. Wearing reversibles will also avoid the issue of entering different player numbers into the scoring computer prior to matches. In addition, coaches will no longer be required to arrange, collect and return clash sets before and after any games.
Boys currently registered (Spring 2019) who register again for the Autumn 2020 Season – to play in U08 – U16, will have a reversible singlet, with their current playing number, ordered and paid for by St Mary’s Basketball Club.
Note: Boys playing in U18s will continue to wear their current singlets.
Our aim is to transition girls, U08 – U16, to reversible singlets as soon as is financially viable for the club. We hope that this will be within 12 months of moving the boys to reversibles.
New and returning players:
Any NEW player registering with St Mary’s from Autumn 2020, will purchase their uniform via the usual uniform ordering process. Their singlet will be reversible.
Any player returning to play with St Mary’s (ie is not currently registered but has played with the club before) will be required to purchase a new singlet that is reversible. (Please note: any boy who was registered this season but withdrew due to injury, and will register again for Autumn 2020, will have a reversible singlet ordered for them).
REVERSIBLES ONLY AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE
Shortly, the only type of singlet available for purchase from our uniform supplier, Impact Sports, will be reversible.
The cost of the reversible singlet is being finalised with our supplier but will increase from the current single sided uniform.
All NEW players will be purchasing a reversible singlet as their uniform.
Girls purchasing a new singlet:
If any currently registered girls need to order a new singlet for sizing, it will be reversible. If this is the case and the player registers again in the season during which we move all U08 – U16 girls to reversibles, the cost of that singlet will then be reimbursed. Parents/carers purchasing a new singlet for their daughter between now and the transition are asked to retain their receipt of purchase.
THE PROCESS – BOYS U08 – U16 AUTUMN 2020
Shortly, all Age Group Coordinators of currently registered U08 – U16 boys will make contact with parents/carers to request the singlet size that their son will require for their new reversible singlet. The size advised by the parent/carer will be final. There are no exchanges from our uniform supplier and the club will not receive a refund if an incorrect size is chosen.
Immediately after the Autumn 2020 registration closes (mid-November) the Age Group Coordinators will adjust their singlet size lists based on registered players. The U08 – U16 lists, with player numbers and sizes, will be sent to Impact Sports, our uniform supplier and a bulk order will be processed.
PLEASE NOTE: Any currently registered male player who is permitted, by an Age Group Coordinator, to register late for the Autumn 2020 Season, will not be included in the bulk reversible singlet order purchase. That player will be required to order a new reversible singlet before they are placed in a team.
It will be very important that all boys in a team are wearing the same type of singlet as matching clash tops will not be available.
Once the reversible singlets are ready, over the Summer break, instructions will be advised to members for the collection of their child/ren’s singlets.
Once all U08 – U16 Boys have their new reversible singlets, we will be very happy to accept donations of the current dark blue singlets. We will be able to use the donated singlets to create more clash sets for the girls’ teams to use until they transition to their reversible singlets.
All uniforms incorporate our logo.
REVERSIBLE SINGLETS WILL HAVE NAVY BLUE ON ONE SIDE AND LIGHT BLUE ON THE OTHER SIDE
